Its history

The first issue appeared in December 1964 under the name Lament, funded by members who pooled their own money after the national office could not provide a subsidy. The name combined the abbreviation for Los Angeles with the start of the word “mental”, and also expressed the group's disappointment at having to pay for it themselves.

The chapter renamed the newsletter L.A. Mentary in November 1998.
